Register Marriage
Register marriages are usually conducted in the offices of the Sub - Registrar's in the presence of the District Registrar. Register marriages can only take place under the Special Marriage Act. Thirty days in advance, the bride and groom who want to have a register marriage should come to the Registrar's office and give notice. The notice so given shall be affixed for thirty days on the notice board of the Registrar's offices along with the photographs of the bride and groom desiring to be married. The notice shall be posted in both the Registrar's Offices within the residential limits of both the bride and groom. After thirty days, after the proper no objection certificate is issued, both the bride and groom can come to the registrar's office with three witnesses and get married and get the government marriage certificate. It should be noted that at least thirty days from the date of notification is required to complete a register marriage. It is only in movies that a register marriage can be done on the same day. And a register marriage can be performed only at one of the two registrar offices within the domicile of both the bride and groom. Cannot be held in other Registrar offices. The spouses entering into a civil marriage may be of the same caste or religion, or of different castes or religions. The consent of parents or relatives is not required for a register marriage. A woman who has completed the age of 18 and a man who has completed the age of 21 can enter into a register marriage if they wish.
